BOONI, Dec 4: The people of Mastuj subdivision have announced their decision to stage a sit-in, from December 5, against rampant corruption in the C&W, irrigation and public health departments and the government’s failure to hold an investigation into the public allegations. The arrangements for the hunger strike were finalized by Tanzeem Haqooq Awam Mastuj at a meeting in Booni on Tuesday. After the meeting, president of the Tanzeem, Sarfaraz Ali Khan said the sit-in would continue at Booni Chowk till the government accepted the demand of the people to launch an inquiry and take action against the corrupt elements. Those who attended the meeting, among others, included patron of the Tanzeem Qazi Jamaluddin, general secretary Abdul Rehman, Rehmat Salam, Jang Azeem, Saifullah, Mukhtar Ahmed Lal, Pervez Lal, Meraj Hussain, Mohiuddin and Mohammad Wali. Talking to this correspondent, the office-bearers of the Tanzeem said that officials of the three departments had pocketed millions of rupees from the funds allocated for Torkhow, Mastuj Road, Meragram water supply and other projects by showing the schemes completed only on papers. They said that despite repeated public complaints and sit-ins the government remained unmoved and was not ready to go after the corrupt elements. They said the government time and again had allocated funds for supplying drinking water to the residents and construct the dilapidated roads but the funds were embezzled. They demanded that action should be initiated against the corrupt officials of these three departments.—S. Nazir Hussain]]>
