CHITRAL, Nov 22: The peace committee of Drosh held an emergency meeting at the Drosh rest house under the chair of Musharaf Khan.
Professor Syed Taufiq Jan had called the meeting of the elites and representatives of all the tribes of the area to discuss different issues. Speaking on the occasion, the elites said some hidden hands were out to spoil the peaceful environment of the area but the district administration remained a silent spectator and was taking no action against them.
They said different uplift schemes, including the construction of the government girls degree college, were still pending.
As a result, the residents of the area were suffering. They said a hydropower station was under construction at Dameel area but despite arrival of the machinery work remained suspended on the project. They also criticized the irrigation and public health engineering departments for using substandard materials in different schemes. They slammed the district administration saying no high official had visited the area to listen to the problems of the residents. They said only two doctors were working at the tehsil headquarters hospital which catered to over 150,000 people.
They alleged that the MNA Chitral was backing his uncle Dr. Bakhtiyar who had been posted to the Drosh hospital for the last three years but never performed duty for a single day.
They said if the district administration did not fulfil their demands within eight days, the people of Drosh would start a protest move.
Former Nazims Abdul Bari, Haider Abbas, Sher Mohammad, Haji Sher Mohammad, Syed Tofiq Jan, Musharaf Khan, Haji Abdul Khaliq, Haji Enzar Gul and others spoke on the occasion. A large number of people belonging to all walks of life were also present.
