CHITRAL, Oct 25: Position holders in secondary school certificate (SSC) annual examinations from various schools across the district were here on Friday given awards and cash prizes.
In this connection, a ceremony was organized at the Centennial Model High School for Boys where Mehtar Shahzada Fatehul Mulk Ali Nasir was the chief guest. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shoab Jadoon presided over the function.
Those who were given the Iqra Talent Award and cash prizes included Shafiq Ahmed of the Government High School Mastuj, Azharudin, Rs40,000 each; Musarat Jabeen, Centennial Model High School for Denin, Jamshid Ahmed Broze Public School, Rs30,000 each; Zainab Sidique Rs20,000 and Mujibullah, Drosh Public School Drosh Rs1,000.
Every year, the awards and cash prizes are given to the high achievers by Karachi-based social worker and philanthropist Qari Faizullah Chitrali.
As the organizers do not encourage female students to attend such functions and receive the awards themselves, their fathers were there to get the awards on their behalf.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehtar Ali Nasir said the youth of Chitral should strive to learn other languages in addition to their mother tongue of Khowar so that they can best represent Chitral nationally and internationally. He said the services of his family for the promotion of education in the district were unprecedented. “So keeping up the tradition of my forefathers I will leave no stone unturned in spreading the light of education in the valley.” He announced that next year Sir Shujaul Mulk and Sir Nasirul Mulk awards of Rs50,000 each will be awarded to the position holders of the Intermediate examinations, both Science and Humanities groups.
