Wildlife dept trying to hush up markhor poaching case

CHITRAL, Aug 29: Though the poachers of two Kashmir markhor in Toshi game reserve have been arrested by the police, the wildlife department authorities here are said to be trying to hush up the case. The markhor was hunted by poachers four days back.
Chitral police spokesman Inspector Buzurguddin said the case had been registered against Tufail Ahmed and Hayatur Rehaman on the complaint of community workers of Seen village. He said that the accused were absconding from the village after institution of the case while police had recovered the hide of one of the hunted markhors from one of the accused along with the shells of used cartridge. The hunters had turned their guns on the community watcher of the game reserve when he tried to catch them along with the hunted animals and their guns.
A conservation worker of the village, requesting not to be named, said that the wildlife department officials were trying to hush up the case and persuading the applicants to withdraw their application.–Zahiruddin
