NA-32: Tribunal summons Musharraf

PESHAWAR, April 11: An election tribunal in Peshawar on Thursday summoned former president Pervez Musharraf on April 16 over an appeal filed against the acceptance of his nomination papers in NA-32 Chitral. Perveez-Musharaf.32-400x238 The appeals were filed by former Jamaat-i-Islami MNA and candidate for the same seat, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf contestant Abdul Lateef, and voters Alam Zeb, Sajidullah and Khalilur Rehman. Around 12 lawyers, including Qazi Mohammad Anwar, Fida Gul, Mohibullah Tirchvi and Ghufranullah, appeared for appellants and said the NA-32 RO had erred in accepting nomination papers of Musharraf, who was a fugitive. They said the Supreme Court had declared Musharraf a usurper for twice imposing emergency rule in the country and holding the Constitution in abeyance. They stated that since Musharraf’s nomination papers from other constituencies were rejected by returning officers, his papers from NA-32 Chitral should also be rejected. Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-139 Kasur II were rejected on the basis of six objections raised by Javed Kasuri and Kasur, the district bar association general secretary, Khalid Latif. Musharraf expects support in Chitral due to development work conducted in the constituency, including the resumption of work on the Lowari tunnel, under his rule.  ]]>
