Besieged IGP airlifted

GILGIT, Dec 2: Inspector General of Gilgit-Baltistan Police Usman Zakria was airlifted from a village near Giglit after protesters besieged him, demanding that a religious cleric arrested for fanning sectarianism should be released. Sheikh Nayyar Abbas of Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen was detained during an overnight police raid at the Nomal valley under the Maintenance of Public Order. Anjuman Imamia and Sipah-i-Sahaba’s Faqir Shah and Maulana Attaullah Saqib, and Hassan Shah Kazmi, president of Shia Ulema Council, were also detained for preaching sectarian hatred. The arrests were made after the GB government issued directives to launch a crackdown against the activists of various sectarian organisations.]]>
