Polo tournament begins

CHITRAL, Oct 17: Baba-e-Polo Muzaffar Ali Khan memorial cup polo tournament started here on Wednesday in Chitral pologround in which twenty seven polo teams from across the district are participating. In the inauguration match, Mastuj subdivision beat the Barenis team by five goals while Jang Bazar team emerged as victorious against Border Police in a thrilling match. The tournament is financed by the All Pakistan Muslim League Chitral chapter while the former president Pervaiz Musharraf will address the gathering on telephone, the district president Shahzada Khalid Pervaiz said. Speaking on the occasion, he  said that Pervaiz Musharraf is held in high esteem by the people of Chitral for the meritorious services he rendered to the area and has immortalized himself in the hearts of Chitralis by starting work on Lowari tunnel project. He said that the former president had also taken drastic steps to revive the game of polo in Chitral and visited the Shandur festival a number of times. Former Tehsil nazim Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk who was chief guest on this occasion, paid glowing tributes to Muzaffar Ali Khan and said that he was a consummate polo player and was second to none in the local history.
