'Drug peddlers' arrested in Chitral
CHITRAL: In a crackdown against drug traffickers, the Chitral police arrested four persons and sent them behind bars. The police said they arrested Mian Mukhtiar Gul, son of Mian Mumtaz Gul, of Rehankot, and Mohammad Azam, son of Hazrat Khan of Denin, on the charges of being the main drug peddlers. However, they were held under the 3 MPO ( Maintenance of Public Order), not drug charges. Police also arrested Mohammad Yakhya Khan, son of Ghulam Anbia, a resident of Khurkushandeh, and Amir Hayat, son of Abdul Ghafar of Ochosht. The police said they recovered 500 grams of Hashish from Yakhya Khan and sent him to jail on the court order for one month. Besides, Amir Hayat was sentenced by a civil court to six months imprisonment. It may be noted that residents of Chitral have long been accusing the police of patronizing the drug peddlers and giving them a free hand to proliferate narcotics in the area. The people here are optimistic that the police will recover maunds of narcotics from its main dealer who was sent to jail for one month. The Station House Officer (SHO) police Station Chitral Inspector confirmed the arrests.–G.H. Farooqui]]>
