Another rally held against suspension of tunnel work
PESHAWAR, April17: Speakers at a protest rally held by people of Chitral here on Tuesday lambasted the PPP government for dumping the vital Lowari Tunnel project and warned that they would go on a complete strike if the needed funds were not released on a priority basis. Those who spoke on the occasion included Jamaat-i-Islmai leaders Serajul Haq, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and former MPA Maulana Ghulam Mohammad. The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for early completion of the work. The speakers said the project needed over Rs4.50 billion but the government was not in a mood to release the amount. They said the PPP government had failed to resolve the issues of the valley and was deliberately delaying release of funds for the project which was not only vital for Chitral but had also a national significance. They also said telephone and wireless loop system in Chitral had been out of order for the past two months but the government was least bothered to take rectify the faults. ]]>
