HUNZA: An earthquake struck the Chapursan Valley of Hunza early Thursday morning, triggering a landslide near Ramanji and damaging several houses, according to local sources.
No loss of life has been reported so far. The landslide also blocked the only unpaved road connecting the valley, disrupting ground communication with the area.
Chapursan, located in the northernmost part of Hunza near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and the Wakhan Corridor, has experienced a series of earthquakes for several months. The recurring tremors have forced some residents to move to safer areas.
According to the report, earthquake activity in the region has ranged in magnitude from 4.5 to 5.4. The Meteorological Department and Geological Survey of Pakistan have linked the seismic activity to a fault line in the region, while underground glacier movements have also been cited as a possible contributing factor.
Residents of the earthquake-affected valley are facing difficulties due to the blockade of the road.
