CHITRAL: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Communication and Works Department has invited bids for several road construction, rehabilitation and widening projects in Upper Chitral under the provincial development programme.
According to a tender notice issued by the C&W Division Upper Chitral and seen by ChitraToday, the works have been divided into three packages and include roads in Booni, Mulkhow, Torkhow and Mastuj.
Package-I includes blacktopping and widening of the Warijun to Mulkhow headquarters road over three kilometres, along with construction, improvement, rehabilitation, widening and blacktopping of the Booni-Awi Road.
Package-II covers the rehabilitation, widening and blacktopping of the Mastuj Chowk to Hospital Road over 1.5 kilometres and the Bulanlasht Road in Booni over two kilometres.
Package-III includes blacktopping of the Booni-Torkhow Road over 1.5 kilometres and construction of a two-kilometre PCC road from Kherchum to Muxen Owir.
The projects are part of the ADP scheme titled “Construction, Improvement, Rehabilitation and Widening of BT Roads in Malakand Division.”
The department has invited eligible contractors registered under the required PEC category to submit electronic bids through the E-PADS system.
The tender notice states that the works will be completed according to the respective work orders.
The initiative is expected to improve road connectivity in several parts of Upper Chitral and facilitate local communities by providing better and safer access between major towns and valleys.
It may be mentioned here that as per an agreement signed by Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi and people of Yarkhun, work on the construction of Mastuj-Broghil road should start on Aug 23, 2026.
The agreement was signed after people of Yarkhun held a long march from Broghil to Booni demanding the government start work on the road to their area
The protesters called off the long march at Mastuj after Suriya Bibi gave an undertaking that work on the construction of the 157 km long road would start on Aug 23.
However, so far there is no progress as neither the KP government has allocated funds not included the mega project in its Annual Development Program (ADP).
