Villagers Stranded After Chairlift Collapse in Yarkhun

YARKHUN: A chairlift serving as the only means of transportation between the two sides of Kand village in Upper Yarkhun has collapsed, leaving residents facing severe difficulties.

The chairlift plunged into the river after its steel cable snapped, disrupting the only available crossing for local communities.

Residents told ChitraToday that the breakdown had created serious problems for students, patients, women, elderly people and those who depend on daily travel for their livelihoods.

Parents and residents are particularly concerned that students may be unable to reach their schools safely, potentially disrupting their education.

Local residents have appealed to the government, district administration, relevant authorities, AKDN and other humanitarian organisations to take immediate notice of the situation and arrange emergency repairs or provide a safe alternative means of transportation.

They said that the issue goes far beyond the repair of a single chairlift, saying the lack of a safe crossing has put the education, healthcare access and livelihoods of thousands of people at risk.

They urged the authorities to treat the matter as an emergency and restore safe connectivity between the communities without delay.
