CHITRAL: The flooding river has once again eroded Chitral-Mastuj Road at Kuragh, cutting off areas of Upper Chitral.
According to Rescue 1122, more than 2,000 people have been safely rescued and moved to secure locations following flash floods in different parts of Upper Chitral and the blockade of the main road at Kuragh.
Rescue teams remain deployed at Kuragh and are continuing to assist stranded passengers and residents.
Officials said the Chitral-Mastuj Road remains closed at Kuragh due to the river flooding and a large number of people are stranded on either side of the blocked road.
Restoration work
Meanwhile, the district administration of Upper Chitral said that restoration work on the flood-damaged road at Kuragh is underway.
According to the district administration, Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan, along with other officials, is personally monitoring the restoration work.
Officials said efforts are focused on restoring road connectivity and facilitating the movement of residents and travelers affected by the recent floods.
The district administration is coordinating with relevant departments to expedite the rehabilitation process and restore normal traffic flow at the earliest possible time.
It may be mentioned here that Upper Chitral remained cut off for months after the river eroded the road at the same place south of Kuragh in the year 2015.
People including women and children had to climb to the mountain and cross to other side of the blocked point on foot.
In the meantime, army helicopters were also used to ferry people between Booni and Chitral. However, the government failed to construct an alternative route at the vulnerable point of the road.
