CHARUN: Sports enthusiasts and youngsters revived a cricket tournament at Donkhul Cricket Ground in Charun, Upper Chitral, after a break of a couple of years.
The week-long sporting event attracted a large number of spectators from Charun and adjacent villages.
Thirteen teams of youngsters participated in the tournament, while friendly matches among senior citizens from Charun-Owir, Kuragh, and Charun were also organized.
The final match of the youngsters was played between the Boshandur and Romandur teams. Boshandur successfully chased a target of 98 runs and won the match. The final match for senior citizens was also played between two teams from Charun.
The youngsters themselves sponsored a musical band for the final day of the tournament, adding to the festive atmosphere as both seniors and children enjoyed dancing to the music. Archery was also featured during the event, drawing significant interest from senior participants.
During the concluding ceremony, local elders appreciated the initiative for engaging youth in healthy activities and providing them opportunities for sport and recreation. They also praised the organizing team for successfully arranging the event, stating that in times of disruption, promoting healthy activities such as sports is more important than ever.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies among winning and runner-up teams of both youngsters and senior citizens. Outstanding players of the tournament were also awarded by the District Sports Officer (DSO), Upper Chitral.
