Chitral, April 26, 2026: A resolution presented by Member Provincial Assembly Fatehul Mulk Ali Nasir has been unanimously approved by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for the launch of a 1000-megawatt hybrid renewable energy program.
According to official correspondence, the Assembly Secretariat has forwarded the resolution to the Energy and Power Department for further action. There is a strong possibility that the proposed project will be included in the upcoming Annual Development Programme (ADP).
The resolution calls for the launch of a 1000-megawatt hybrid renewable energy programme aimed at reducing the province’s power shortage. Under the plan, 600MW of hydropower projects will be developed in districts including Chitral, Dir, and Kohistan, while 350MW of solar energy projects will be installed in southern districts.
Additionally, 50MW of wind power projects are proposed for the upper and central regions of Chitral, utilizing wind energy potential in the area.
Speaking on the development, MPA Ali Nasir said the project would be particularly beneficial for Chitral. He noted that in light of rising global fuel prices and energy shortages, generating affordable electricity through indigenous resources has become essential.
He expressed hope that the government would initiate swift implementation of the project to help the province achieve greater energy self-sufficiency.
