Chitral, Jan 23, 2026: The spell of heavy snowfall continued across Chitral with intervals, causing blockades of major roads, including Garam Chashma road, Kalash valley road and Chitral-Mastuj road at different points.
Moreover, heavy snowfall has also resulted in suspension of power supply to consumers across the valley.
Even the main Chitral city received heavy snowfall and link roads in the town area were blocked on Friday morning.
The district administration of Lower Chitral said that rescue and relief operations were underway round the clock to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety, said the district administration of Lower Chitral.
On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral, teams from Rescue 1122, National Highway Authority (NHA), Communication and Works (C&W) Department, and the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), along with heavy machinery, remained engaged in snow clearance operations in Chitral town, Lowari Tunnel approach road, and the Garam Chashma Road.
The local administration said all major roads have been kept open for traffic despite adverse weather conditions. In addition, Rescue 1122 and TMA machinery are actively clearing snow from Hospital Road, Bypass Road, and Chew bridge Road to facilitate local movement.
However, reports from different areas showed that mobility had been restricted due to the inclement weather and commuters were stranded in a large number.
