Chitral, Jan 14, 2026: An American enthusiast hunted a Kashmir Markhor at the Toshi Community Managed Game Reserve in Lower Chitral, the wildlife department said today.
The hunt was conducted under the supervision of the Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in compliance with regulated trophy hunting procedures.

According to officials, the hunter obtained a permit through an international bidding process, offering $270,000 for the opportunity.
The Markhor was taken down at a distance of 510 metres, and its horns measured 49 inches. Notably, the hunter selected this animal for its distinctive and attractive mane, rather than the traditional focus on horn size.
Officials confirmed that the hunt was carefully monitored to ensure adherence to conservation protocols. The revenue from the permit will support local community development and wildlife conservation initiatives.
Earlier this winter, two American and one Russian hunters also hunted Markhors in Lower Chitral.
