JI Launches End Corruption Drive In Lower Chitral

Chitral, Dec 26, 2025: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Lower Chitral on Friday launched an anti-corruption campaign, “End Corruption, Save Chitral”, alleging large-scale misuse of development funds in various government departments of the district.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s district office, JI Lower Chitral Ameer Wajeehuddin, accompanied by provincial deputy ameer Maghfirat Shah and other party leaders, said the campaign would continue until corrupt officials, their facilitators and contractors are brought to justice.

He alleged that for the past several years, development funds allocated for Chitral had been subjected to massive corruption. “If impartial investigations are conducted, even the Kohistan mega corruption scandal will be forgotten,” he claimed, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami had decided to confront corrupt elements head-on.

Wajeehuddin accused the provincial government of patronizing corruption, turning the district into a hub of corrupt practices where, according to him, a powerful mafia in collusion with elected representatives was openly looting public resources.

He alleged that embezzlement, ghost schemes and fund withdrawals in the name of already completed projects had become routine.
He said the JI Public Aid Committee had gathered complete details of the alleged irregularities, particularly in the TMAs, Local Government Department and C&W Department. He alleged that Rs 3.2 billion allocated for Chitral’s beautification had been misappropriated, while despite spending Rs 1 billion on the Syedabad Sports Complex, the project remained incomplete.

He also pointed out that the newly constructed Women and Children Hospital building had remained unusable for the past three years due to substandard construction.
The JI leader announced that the campaign’s first phase would include protests at the village council level, followed by the release of a white paper to expose corrupt elements. He said sit-ins, sealing of offices and other protest options would also be exercised if needed.

Speaking on the occasion, Maghfirat Shah, former district nazim and provincial deputy ameer of JI, demanded that investigation agencies probe the alleged corruption and ensure strict punishment for those involved.

He warned that failure to act would trigger a strong public movement.
Village chairman Abdul Haq said depriving elected local government representatives of development funds and authority for four years was itself a glaring example of corruption.
