JUI Lower Chitral Rejects Talha Mehmood’s Allegations

Chitral, Sept 17, 2025: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Lower Chitral chapter has issued a strong rebuttal to the recent interview of Senator Talha Mehmood, in which he claimed that he had played a decisive role in securing five Senate seats for various political parties, including two seats allegedly won on behalf of JUI..

In an official press statement released on Wednesday, JUI Lower Chitral termed the senator’s assertions “completely baseless, unfounded, and absurd,” adding that the remarks appear to be part of a deliberate campaign aimed at discrediting the political credibility of JUI across the country.

The party expressed its astonishment over the senator’s claim, questioning whether under the dynamic leadership of Maulana Fazlur Rehman – an influential political and religious figure with a proven vision – JUI could ever be so weak as to depend on individuals “running NGOs” for Senate representation.

“This assertion is nothing short of the biggest joke of the century and is beyond the limits of reason or logic,” the statement declared.

The spokesperson added that the party is carefully analyzing the motives behind such a statement, and will in due course reveal to the public the forces operating behind what it described as a “well-orchestrated drama.”

JUI also reminded the public that Senator Talha Mehmood himself had sought a Senate ticket from the party, but the central leadership had preferred loyal workers over “parachuters,” which left him without the nomination.

“Disappointment over being denied the ticket is understandable,” the statement said, “but making unfounded claims to vent that frustration cannot be tolerated.”

Commenting on Talha Mehmood’s further assertion that he had also helped secure a seat for the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), the statement noted that only PML-N can directly respond to such claims. However, JUI described the senator’s allegation as “both far from reality and extremely laughable,” adding that if he truly had such influence, “Captain (retd.) Safdar would not have publicly exposed his political stature and reminded him of his actual standing during a political gathering.”

JUI Lower Chitral categorically condemned what it called “frivolous and reckless” claims, and urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take immediate notice. “How can a person who himself contested the Senate election claim, after the polls are concluded, that he played a role in awarding five seats?” the statement asked.

“Such irresponsible remarks only bring ridicule to our national institutions and make a mockery of the Constitution before the world.”

Concluding the statement, JUI Lower Chitral issued a strong demand that Senator Talha Mehmood retract his words and tender an unconditional apology to the leadership and workers of JUI. “Failing which,” the party warned, “he will face both political and public accountability.”
