SWAT: Rescuers pulled four miners out alive after an emerald mine collapsed in Swat’s Fizzagat area on Thursday.
The miners, from Shangla district, were trapped 880 feet underground. The mine caved in earlier in the day. Rescue 1122 teams worked for over seven hours to reach them. More than 40 rescuers and volunteers took part in the operation.
“All four men were rescued safely,” said a Rescue 1122 spokesperson. “They are in stable condition.”
Medics treated the miners on site. Authorities are now investigating what caused the collapse. The incident raised new concerns about mine safety in the region.
This rescue stands in sharp contrast to earlier failures during the Swat River flood tragedy earlier this year. Heavy rains caused the river to overflow, sweeping away tourists near Fizzagat. Rescue teams arrived late, and coordination broke down.
An inquiry revealed staggering lapses: key divers were absent or unqualified, the emergency call system was switched off, and rescue gear was missing or malfunctioning . Officials were suspended, but public anger grew over the avoidable loss of life.
