AKAH details emergency response preparedness

CHITRAL: The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Chitral briefed the district administration on its readiness to respond to emergencies during a planning meeting held at the DC office Lower Chitral.

Wali Muhammad Yaftali, Regional Program Manager (RPM) AKAH, outlined the agency’s preparedness efforts and activities to support local communities. He informed participants that AKAH had completed the construction of protective embankments in Drosh, Golen, Shali and Momi to mitigate disaster risk. This year, AKAH also ensured the provision of safe drinking water in 13 schools across Lower Chitral.

Manager Emergency Management Javed Ahmad highlighted AKAH’s commitment to coordinated disaster preparedness.

During the session, Rescue 1122 representatives announced that a provincial government-mandated mock drill will be held on Saturday at Balach Shotar. Participants were briefed on the drill’s arrangements and objectives.

Deputy Commissioner Rao Hashim Azeem invited the AKAH team to take an active part in the exercise. RPM Yaftali assured full cooperation and expressed AKAH’s commitment to making the drill effective and well-coordinated.

AKAH also invited the DC to visit its AKAH office and emergency operations centre to review ongoing preparedness initiatives.
