CHITRAL: The Torkhow-Terich Road Forum (TTRF) has called off its sit-in protest in Booni following \”successful\” negotiations with Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi on Friday night.
A spokesperson for Ms Suriya Bibi told ChitraToday that after the protesters marched on Booni the deputy speaker rushed home from Peshawar and held talks with representatives of the protesters on Friday night.
He said that she assured the protesters of her all-out support to remove their grievances, adding work on the road construction would start soon.
According to sources, it has been agreed that construction work on a two-kilometre stretch of the road will commence after Eidul Azha expected to be observed on June 7.
The forum had been demanding removal of the executive engineer of the project, blacklisting of the contractor, recovery of funds embezzled by C&W department officials, political figures and immediate start of work on the stalled road project.
The negotiating team which held talks with the deputy speaker and others included Maulana Fatahur Rahman, Maulana Hafizur Rahman and Jalaluddin.
After the talks concluded, the announcement to end the protest was made by forum representative Umair Khalil.
Local residents and activists have welcomed the decision, expressing hope that the government will honour its commitment and ensure timely completion of the promised roadworks.
