BOONI: The residents of Dizg village in Yarkhoon valley have once again raised their voice over the acute shortage of irrigation and drinking water, urging the district administration and NGOs to help resolve the issue on a permanent basis.
In the past, multiple efforts to bring water from Bang Gol to the village have failed. A canal dug by the local community in collaboration with an NGO in the 1980s could not yield results due to poor planning and lack of coordination. An earlier attempt during the era of the former Chitral state had also remained unsuccessful.
As part of renewed efforts, a formal application has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Upper Chitral Haseebur Rehman Khan Khalil by social activist Piyar Ali Khan on behalf of the villagers. The application suggested that water could be brought to Dizg either from Yukum or Bang Gol through a syphon system.
Speaking to ChitralToday, Mr. Piyar said the DC responded positively to the request and assured him that efforts would be made to arrange the required funds. He added that the DC also expressed willingness to involve relevant NGOs to ensure the success of the project.
He further stated that the DC had directed the concerned officials to initiate work on the proposed solution, raising hopes among the residents for a lasting end to their water woes.
