CHITRAL: Roads to many areas in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan have been blocked due to flooding and landslides following the rain and snowfall.
The rain and snowfall continued in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan for over two days causing blockades of roads including Karakorum highway, Chitral to Garam Chashma, Kalash valley, Madaklasht, Torkhow, Yarkhun and Broghil. Hundreds of trees and dozens of mud houses have also collapsed.
Electricity has also been cut off in many areas. People are facing a lot of problems due to bad weather.
Crops of peach, almond, pear and apple have also been damaged due to rain and snowfall as the blossoming season was in its prime.
According to the deputy commissioner of Lower Chitral, a two-day holiday has been declared in all schools across the district in view of the bad weather.
Meanwhile, the remote Broghil valley of Upper Chitral is totally cut off from rest of the country after the area received heavy snowfall. Many villages in upper Yarkhun are also inaccessible as the road blocked by landsliding and heavy snow.
In addition, heavy rains and landslides in Kohistan and Chilas also blocked the Karakoram Highway at three places.
