CHITRAL, July 6: The share holders of the district agro-farm society have demanded of the government to take notice of the shady ways in maintaining the accounts of the society which have not been made available to the share holders for the last thirteen years. In a general meeting of the share holders coming from the valleys of Lotkoh, Karimabad, Arkari, Koh, Oveer and Mulkhow presided over by representative of the share holders and former district naib nazim Sultan Shah, it was reiterated that the accounts keeping procedure should be made transparent to weed out corrupt practices. They also demanded of the government to convene a general body meeting of the share holders of the society and dissolve the incumbent management committee whose members, they alleged, were hand picked by the officers of agriculture department. The share holders said that the set rules of procedures for the formation of the management committee were blatantly violated by the agriculture department who wanted such persons who yield to their illegal actions. They said that the society will not achieve its targets of ameliorate the farmers in the presence of the incumbent committee which represented the officers of agriculture department more than the farmers across the district. They said that the society can change the very fate of the farmers if properly streamlined and made functional and that the backward and resource-constrained farmers needed its help and guidance for which the government has created the societies in each district. The share holders said that they deserved to be told by the management committee about the income accrued from the sale of seeds, pesticides, lending of tractors, bulldozers and thrashers on rent during the period of last thirteen years. They also alleged that the agriculture officers and the management committee have doled out the newly arrived tractors and thrashers among certain farmers in utter disregard of merit and policy.
