Tesla Unveils New Roadster With Rocket Thrusters

WASHINGTON: Tesla has unveiled a new version of its all-electric Roadster sports car equipped with rocket-style thrusters developed in collaboration with SpaceX, with production reportedly scheduled to begin in 2028.

According to a report, the American electric vehicle manufacturer showcased a white, two-seat sports car featuring technology designed to deliver extraordinary acceleration and manoeuvrability.

During the demonstration, the vehicle reportedly performed unusual stunts, including moving backwards up a ramp with the help of a suction system, rotating in mid-air and landing using its installed thrusters.

It also demonstrated the ability to jump over a truck and other vehicles, leaving spectators and investors astonished.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s aerospace company, SpaceX, has collaborated on the project, which is expected to become Tesla’s flagship sports car.

According to the report, Tesla’s vehicle engineering chief, Lars Moravy, said the new Roadster could accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour (approximately 97 kilometres per hour) in less than one second.

The car’s maximum speed could exceed 230 miles per hour (370 kilometres per hour), while its range on a single charge could surpass 300 miles (480 kilometres).

Tesla enthusiast and investor Sawyer Merritt described the presentation on social media platform X as one of the most extraordinary product demonstrations he had ever witnessed.

Morningstar analyst Seth Goldstein said the Roadster could serve as Tesla’s flagship vehicle, showcasing the company’s engineering capabilities and technological ambitions.

Tesla first unveiled a prototype of the second-generation Roadster in 2017 and initially planned to begin deliveries in 2020. However, the project has faced repeated delays.

The original Roadster, introduced in 2008, was Tesla’s first production electric car and used a chassis based on the Lotus Elise.

Production continued until 2012.
Tesla is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial results on October 21, 2026.

Analysts expect investors to focus primarily on the company’s profitability, margins and cash flow rather than the Roadster demonstration.
