PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a development package worth Rs4.95 billion for Upper Chitral, aimed at improving road connectivity, flood protection, irrigation and other key infrastructure in the district.
“The Mohsin-e-Chitral Package was approved following continued efforts by KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi. Administrative Approval for the projects has now also been issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Planning and Development Department,” said a statement issued by the office of the deputy speaker.
It said the package’s PC-I had earlier been approved during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on August 24, 2026.
The development programme includes several major projects across Upper Chitral, including the construction and improvement of 20 kilometres of the Mastuj-Broghil Pass Road and four kilometres of the Reshun Powerhouse Road.
It also includes various PCC roads in the Torkhow and Murkhow, RCC bridges at Parpish and Warijun, 19 flood protection schemes, 19 irrigation channels, and check dams at three different locations.
According to the statement, Rs2.70 billion has been allocated for the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, while Rs2.25 billion has been earmarked for the Irrigation Department.
The projects are expected to improve transportation and connectivity, protect communities and agricultural land from flooding and erosion, and enhance irrigation facilities in the region.
The statement said the projects would soon be put out for tender, paving the way for their implementation.
