FLORIDA: A 23-year-old female pilot safely landed a small aircraft in the Atlantic Ocean after an engine malfunction forced her to make an emergency landing near the coast of Florida.
According to foreign media reports, Faith Tankley was flying a single-engine family aircraft from Fort Myers to the Bahamas to pick up her parents when the engine problem occurred.
With the beach crowded with families and other visitors, Tankley gradually brought the aircraft down while avoiding buildings and people along the shoreline. She eventually landed the plane in the water, preventing casualties on the busy beach.
After the aircraft came to a stop, Tankley exited and swam safely toward the shore. Lifeguards and emergency responders arrived within minutes and confirmed that she had not suffered any injuries.
Witnesses said they were shocked to see the aircraft descending unusually close to the beach. One beachgoer recalled looking up while applying sunscreen to her child and seeing the plane heading toward the water.
Local officials praised the young pilot for her skill and composure, saying her decision to land the aircraft away from the crowded beach helped prevent injuries and potentially saved lives.
