Chitral, July 16, 2026: A woman tourist from Karachi died after slipping into the river at Shahrisham in Lower Chitral on Wednesday evening, local sources said.
The deceased had travelled to Chitral with a group of friends for sightseeing.
According to local residents, she was sitting near the river at the Markhor Point tourist spot at Shahrisham on Chitral-Garam Chashma road when she lost her balance and fell into the fast-flowing water.
Locals immediately rescued her from the river and rushed her to a nearby hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for visitors to exercise caution while visiting riverside tourist attractions in Chitral, particularly during the summer season when river currents are strong due to glacier melt.
