Chitral, Jan 5, 2026: The Workers Committee of the PTI Lower Chitral has demanded a high-level investigation into the alleged widespread corruption and misconduct within the Communications and Works (C&W) Department and other government departments.
The committee rejected the inquiry committee formed by the deputy commissioner, which included the executive engineer and TMO (Tehsil Municipal Officer) as members.
Addressing a press conference at Chitral Press Club, accompanied by dozens of party workers, members of the committee, including Sultan Mohammad Sher, Ijaz Ahmad, Aminur Rehman, Sajjad Parthwi, Islahuddin, Fayaz Khan and Haji Niazuddin stated that the PTI’s manifesto was built upon transparency and accountability. As loyal party workers, they called for a fair and impartial investigation into the opposition’s allegations and expressed their full commitment to cooperating in the eradication of corruption for the benefit of the public.
The workers committee said the inquiry committee should include representatives from opposition parties, journalists and members of civil society. They also demanded that investigations be conducted by visiting each village council and gathering collective input from the general public through mosques.
The committee specifically pointed out the names of three prominent C&W Chitral officers – the executive engineer, SDO (subdivisional officer) and the sub-engineer – and said they should be investigated about alleged embezzlement of the April 2024 disaster relief funds. The workers called for these officials to explain under whose pressure they signed documents for payments.
Furthermore, they expressed concerns over the performance of other departments, including the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Irrigation and Soil Conservation Departments. Despite submitting requests under the Right to Information (RTI) law, the committee members claimed that these departments had refused to provide the requested information.
The committee members vowed to continue their efforts to ensure that justice is served and that corruption is eliminated from government institutions in the region.
