Crackdown on unregistered rickshaws in Chitral

Entry Of Rickshaws Banned In Lower Chitral

CHITRAL, Dec 23, 2025: The district administration of Lower Chitral has imposed a ban on the entry of new rickshaws into the district for a period of two months in order to address traffic congestion and public safety concerns.
The decision was taken under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) through an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral. According to the notification, the unregulated movement of three-wheelers has caused frequent traffic bottlenecks, obstruction of emergency vehicles, and increased risks of road accidents.
The order states that many rickshaws are operating without proper registration and fitness certificates, contributing to noise pollution and deterioration of civic discipline. The ban follows a meeting of the District Liaison Committee held on December 18, where it was unanimously decided that no new rickshaws would be allowed to enter Lower Chitral.
The ban has come into immediate effect, and violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the CrPC. Law enforcement agencies and traffic authorities have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order.
