Profiling of Unregistered Rickshaws Underway

CHITRAL, Aug 5, 2025: Acting on the special directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Lower Chitral Iftikhar Shah, police have launched a profiling drive for unregistered rickshaws in the district.

The process is being conducted at the Police Facilitation Centre in Zargarandeh under the supervision of DSP Headquarters Akbar Shah, Traffic Clerk Nadeem Ahmad, President of the Rickshaw Union Zafar Ayub, and In-charge Traffic Warden Police ASI Fazal Karim.

As part of the initiative, unregistered rickshaws are being documented and issued temporary registration numbers.

This measure aims to bring such vehicles under official record, streamline traffic management, and assist law enforcement in maintaining public order.

Rickshaws were first introduced in Chitral in the early 2000s, with a single vehicle brought in from Peshawar. Over the years, their number steadily increased, becoming a popular means of local transport due to their affordability and ability to navigate narrow roads.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Lower Chitral Police, the temporary numbers will remain valid until the rickshaws are fully registered through the regular process.
