Residents Dismantle Powerhouse as River Floods Strike

MASTUJ, Aug 15, 2025: Residents in the Hazratabad area (Toq) of Mastuj dismantled a small hydropower plant as river flooding threatened to wash it away.

They said it was the first powerhouse in the area, and now it was gone. They criticized the government for funding polo grounds, festivals, and dance parties while ignoring urgent public needs.

The locals said they had voted for the PTI, but the elected MPA and deputy speaker of the KP Assembly failed to protect their only powerhouse.

It may be mentioned here that climate change–driven rains, floods, and landslides have hit Upper Chitral for years, damaging lives, property and infrastructure.
