A deadly cloudburst struck Nasirabad in Muzaffarabad, killing six members of the same family. Heavy rain continues to batter Azad Kashmir, triggering flash floods and overflowing rivers.
In Bagh District, intense rainfall swelled streams and forced authorities to shut down all schools. In Samahni, floodwaters from the Bhimber Nala reached dangerous levels. A tourist vehicle was swept away but rescuers saved everyone on board. Water levels remain dangerously high in Jhelum Valley, Neelum Valley, Hattian Bala, and other low-lying areas.
Across the Line of Control, flooding in Indian-occupied Kashmir’s Ramban District killed three people, including a child.
Gilgit-Baltistan faces severe damage due to nonstop rain, landslides, and flash floods. A landslide killed three people in Ghizer District, while three others remain missing. In Diamer, floodwaters swept away a brother and sister. A child was injured in a landslide near Babusar Road. In Hunza, rapid melting of the Shisper Glacier is causing heavy erosion along the Hasanabad Nala. Authorities have issued evacuation notices, and many families are fleeing their homes.
Floods have destroyed homes, crops, roads, and schools. The Gilgit-Baltistan government has declared a state of emergency in several regions. Spokesperson Faizullah Faraq urged people near Chinar Bagh and other low-lying areas to evacuate and stay alert.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, flash floods hit Mansehra near Siran Valley Family Park. The park was packed with tourists, but emergency teams evacuated over 1,300 people to higher ground. In Upper Kohistan, rising water in the Indus River forced the closure of the Karakoram Highway.
The situation is likely to get worse. The seventh monsoon spell begins on August 13. Meteorologists expect heavy rain between August 14 and 23, especially in flood-prone areas. Authorities have already issued a flood advisory for Punjab.
