Work Resumes on Lowari Tunnel Approach Road: PML-N

CHITRAL: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has resumed construction work on the approach road to Lowari Tunnel at Baradam.

The suspension of work for several weeks had raised concerns about delays on this vital route linking Chitral with the rest of the country. On Wednesday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chitral media cell claimed that the party’s leadership played a key role in getting the project back on track.

According to the media cell, PML-N representatives consistently followed up on the issue and urged federal authorities to take immediate action. Their efforts prompted the NHA and the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission to intervene and direct the swift resumption of work.

It may be mentioned here that the PML-N-led federal government, under which the NHA operates, swung into action after Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Abdul Latif Chitrali was sentenced by a court in Islamabad in a May 9-related case, raising expectations of his disqualification and a by-election on the NA-1 Chitral seat.

The Election Commission of Pakistan officially disqualified the MNA on July 29.

The disqualification has triggered a flurry of political activity by PTI and other parties in Chitral. In response, PML-N leaders have stepped up their presence and claimed rapid progress on long-stalled infrastructure projects, including the Chitral–Shandur Road, the Garam Chashma Road, and roads in the Kalash valleys.
