PESHAWAR: The Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expanded its second shift program in government schools, providing education access to 70,000 additional students across the province, including districts such as Chitral.
The department has launched second shifts in 1,053 government schools, from primary to higher secondary levels. This includes 588 boys’ schools and 465 girls’ schools. Enrollment in these second shifts has now reached 70,000 students. Authorities plan to add even more schools to ensure that no child is left out of education.
Officials say the program addresses overcrowding by making better use of existing school buildings. It offers children who cannot attend morning classes an equal opportunity to study. The government has pledged that no child will be left out of school.
Teachers have received special schedules and training to maintain education quality during both shifts. The Education Department is also providing additional resources to support effective teaching in second shifts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including remote areas like Chitral.
Parents and community leaders have welcomed the initiative, calling it a crucial step toward reducing educational inequality in underserved regions. They urge the government to expand the program further, improve school facilities, and ensure that every child can access quality education close to home.
