KOSHT: The people of Upper Chitral continue to be deprived of basic infrastructure, with the deteriorating bridge connecting Morder and Kosht standing as a stark example of official neglect.
This rickety bridge, made of wood and ropes, is the only connection between the two major villages. Schoolchildren, women, the elderly and even patients are forced to cross it daily. With several planks missing and the river clearly visible below, the crossing is no less than a death trap.
Residents have repeatedly appealed to the local administration and elected officials to address the issue, but no practical steps have been taken so far. Promises made during open forums and public gatherings have remained just that — empty promises.
One elder of the area remarked, “Do our children’s lives have no value? Every day, we fear the bridge might collapse.”
Local youth have taken to social media, sharing photos and videos of the bridge in a bid to draw attention to the issue, but there has been no meaningful response from the authorities.
The community demands immediate repairs or the construction of a new bridge to prevent potential tragedy. It is high time the authorities act before a precious life is lost.
