Sit-in protest in Chumarkhon against electricity outages
Chitral Today Report
Today after Friday prayers, the people of Chumarkhon staged a sit-in protest demanding an end to electricity outages in the area.
The protesters were of the view that the electricity outages spanning over seven hours daily were not acceptable to the people. It is an unjust treatment with the people of the area.
One of the protesters, Abdul Haq after chanting slogans against the power providers, said they had a single demand that was to end electricity loadshedding. Although we pay heavy tariff for electricity, we don’t have uninterrupted power supply, he added.
Political leader Maghfirat Shah also attended the sit-in protest today.
The protesters said that no official from the district administration turned up at the protest site to reconcile the locals.
The protesters said that they would continue the protest until their demand for uninterrupted supply was met. Hundreds of vehicles with passengers remained stuck on both sides of the road.
It’s also pertinent to mention that the sit-in protest is also going on in Chitral Town. The road is closed for traffic near Ataliq Bridge. The political leadership of Chitral is present there.
