Climate change event held in Booni

BOONI: CHEPS organised an art event focusing on climate change at the Govt Degree College for Boys Booni, Upper Chitral.
The event was organized by CHEPS (Chitral Heritage and Environmental Protection Society) and saw participation from students, volunteers, civil society members, and social activists.
The objective of the event was to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change in Chitral and promote sustainable practices through real-life experiences, expert insights, and interactive activities.
Keynote speakers at the event included Ms. Mohsina Inayat from CHEPS, social activist Ibadur Rehman, and Rehmat Ali Jafar Dost who presented real-life climate disasters in Chitral.
Additionally, Mr. Saifudin, a musicologist, conveyed environmental suffering through music, while Afzal Wali Badaksh linked environmental damage to economic development. Jawad Ahmad, a representative from AKAH, showcased the organization’s sustainable environment initiatives, and Mr. Jamashid, a lecturer in botany, explained environmental pollution concepts and causes.
A parallel session on sports for sustainability was also organized by CHEPS in Charun village, with activities for women and children supervised by Ms. Tashfeen Haibat, a three-time national tennis champion. This session aimed to promote healthy lifestyles, resilience, and coping mechanisms for natural disasters.
Event highlights included personal stories from climate disaster victims, expert insights on environmental preservation and sustainable development, interactive music and sports sessions, and an emphasis on community engagement and collective action.
Participants urged citizens to adopt environmentally conscious lifestyles, support research-based initiatives, promote sustainable development practices, and engage in community-led climate change mitigation efforts.
CHEPS reiterated its commitment to environmental protection and preservation in Chitral through awareness workshops, research initiatives, community engagement, and collaborations with local organizations.
The event concluded with a call to join the movement to combat climate change and build a sustainable future together.
