Action demanded against consumer council official

CHITRAL: Representatives of political parties, traders, bar council, village councils and people from different walks of life at a meeting on Monday unanimously demanded that the district administration should take legal action against Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Lower Chitral additional director Irfan Aziz for misuse of his authority and assaulting a citizen.

The meeting was held at Jamia Masjid Bazaar after Zuhr prayers in which the participants through a resolution called for action within two days against the cpc official.

They said Mr Irfan used the Levies force to assault the TCS Chitral manager Adil Ahmed and forcibly took him to the police station and illegally detained him for hours. This was not only an open hooliganism against a citizen but also misuse of official authority and the Levies force of Chitral.  The resolution also asked the deputy commissioner, who is the commander of the Levies, not to deploy the Levies personnel with any official in future.

The also resolution alleged that there were complaints against Mr Irfan that he had received money from shopkeepers without giving them challans. He had also been accused of allowing the supply of substandard edibles, especially chips, in the Chitral bazaar for sale. The resolution demanded that an inquiry should be conducted into these allegations for action against the deputy director CPC.

The resolution stated that if action was not taken against the official in two days, the district administration would be responsible for any law and order situation.

It may be noted that two days back a complaint had been filed in the City police station for registration of a case against Mr Irfan, the additional director at the CPC.

The police received the complaint from Adil Ahmed, son of Abdul Sattar of Shiaqotek, and registered it in its Roznamcha (diary). According to the complaint filed by Adil Ahmed, who is the branch manager of TCS, at about 1pm on August 27, 2024, Mr Irfan entered the TCS office and without speaking to any official started checking parcels of people.

The complainant said that when he asked the person for any order to check the parcels, he first threatened him and then called the Levies personnel and dragged him out, put him into a vehicle and took him to the police station and illegally detained him in the lock-up till 7pm. The complainant sought action against the official for assaulting and keeping him in illegal detention.
