Olympics gold medal for Pakistan after 40 years

PARIS: In the Javelin final at the Olympics Gams in Paris, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal with a 92.97 metres throw, making a new Olympics record.

The defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India remained second with 89.45 metres. It is first time since 1984 that Pakistan has won a gold medal in the Olympics games.

The Mian Channu-born was slow off the blocks, registering a no-throw on his first attempt of the night but shocked everyone on his second attempt, with a monstrous 92.97-m throw, which the rest of the field could not even come close for the competition.

Pakistan hockey team had last won a gold medal in Olympics games held in Los Angeles in 1984. So far, Pakistan has won four gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the Olympics games.
