School vacations extended
CHITRAL: Schools are not going to reopen after a month-long summer vacation in hilly areas of Khyber Pakthunkhwa due to monsoon rain and flood devastation.
The district administration of Upper and Lower Chitral announced that all schools in the district would remain closed till August 3.
The educational institutions were scheduled to reopen on August 1 in the hilly areas, including Chitral. However, the rain and floods have blocked roads and damaged houses as well as schools in many areas. The vacations were later extended to Aug 8.
An official in the education department told ChitralToday that schools cannot be reopened amid road blockades and inclement weather. Many schools have also been damaged in the floods, he said.
The official added that the education department would announce a decision about an extension in the vacation, possibly for a week or so.
