Sentences in Iddat case overturned

ISLAMABAD: An additional district and sessions court in Islamabad on Saturday overturned the sentences of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case.

The court ruled that if not wanted in any other case, the couple may be released from jail.

On February 3 this year, civil judge Qudratullah had sentenced the former prime minister and PTI founder and his spouse to seven years imprisonment for contracting their marriage while she was in Iddat. They had also been fined Rs0.5 million each.

The additional district and sessions judge, Afzal Majoka, today accepted their appeal and set aside the ruling.

The Iddat case was initiated against the couple by former husband of Bushra Bibi in July last year.

According to the case, Bushra Bibi married Imran Khan before the completion of the specific period in accordance with Islamic junctions.
