CHITRAL: Apathy of the PTI government and its failure to take timely action has led to the destruction of Reshun village in Upper Chitral.
Speaking at a press conference here, PML-N Chitral leaders said that continuous erosion of Reshun by the river for about five years has now brought the scenic and historic village to the brink of annihilation.
Abdul Wali Khan Abid, Muhammad Kausar, Muhammad Azam Khan, Muhammad Wazir Khan and Niaz A. Niazi said under the nose of the government the irrigation department embezzled millions of rupees released for the construction of protection walls to save the village from river erosion.
They demanded that an inquiry should be conducted against the officials responsible of the irrigation department for pocketing the money instead of utilizing it for the protection of Reshun.
The PML-N leaders also expressed apprehensions over rumours that the PTI government was contemplating closing the University of Chitral and asked the authorities not to take such an anti-education decision against Chitral.
Moreover, they said, power poles damaged on the Lowari pass were yet to be repaired and in case of the closure of Golen Gol powerhouse Chitral would be without electricity as the area was also fed power from the national grid.
The PML-N leaders called upon the power utility authorities to repair the poles without any further delay.
