PESHAWAR: The KP government on Tuesday declared emergency in Lower and Upper Chitral and other rain-hit districts till April 30
According to a notification issued by the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department, the emergency has been declared in Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Swat, Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Mohmand, Bajaur, Tank, DI Khan, Chitral Lower and Upper, Khyber, Peshawar and Charsadda with immediate effect till April 30.
The emergency was imposed for provision of relief and restoration of communication network and water supply.
The unprecedented rain and snowfall in the middle of April has paralyzed routine life in Chitral.
The valley is cut off from rest of the country while roads inside Chitral are also blocked due to landsliding and flooding in nullahs and stream. The rain followed by snowfall even in Chitral town continued four days.
An emergency was also declared in 2022 after widespread rain and floods in Chitral.
Meanwhile, MPA Fatehul Mulk Ali Nasir has called upon the government to declare Chitral as a disaster zone keeping in view the frequency of climate change-related disasters in the mountainous valley.
