Protest held against police beating of shopkeeper

DROSH: A large number of people blocked the Chitral-Peshawar road in Drosh for over four hours demanding registration of an FIR against police officials for beating and injuring a shopkeeper. 

Iqbal Shaheen, a resident of Jinjiret, who runs a shop in Drosh bazar, remained hospitalized with multiple injuries after being beaten up by three officials in the police station of Drosh. Today, people of Drosh blocked the main road and staged a sit-in.

As the protest continued, police registered a case under section 506 (criminal intimidation), but the protesters rejected it and called for registration of an FIR under section 324 (attempt to murder). However, the police said more sections could be added to the case after receiving the medico-legal report. 

Senior district administration and police officers reached the spot and later the injured who was also present on the spot forgave the three police officials who had beaten him and the protesters dispersed.
