KARACHI: The Wildlife Department of Sindh on Sunday launched a first ever sparrow census in Karachi.
According to reports, the result of the sparrow counting will be released on March 20, which is observed as International Day of Sparrows.
Sparrow loving citizens along with the wildlife department are taking part in the counting and will document the birds by making videos and recording their number and locations.
The International Sparrow Day has been observed since 2010. It is aimed at raising awareness about sparrow conservation and protection, as their numbers are declining globally.
Sparrows play an important role in keeping environmental balance.
These birds are also considered farmer friendly as they check the spread of insects that damage plants and crops.
