CHITRAL: A book on the history of Chitral titled Auraq-i-Pareshan written by retired Lt Col Shahzada Iftikharul Mulk was launched here on Tuesday.
Noted poet and singer Iqbaluddin Sahar presided over the ceremony where Abdul Wali Khan advocate was the chief guest.
The speakers, including Dr Inayatullah Faizi, Muhkamuddin and Mohammad Javed Hayat, appreciated the author’s initiative, saying there was a dire need for such a research work on the history of Chitral.
They said limited written material was available on the topic and that, too, was produced by the British rulers, who came to the area in 1895.
The speakers praised the author for collecting the “data and facts” of the last 200 years of the former dynastic state of Chitral.
They added that the region was ruled by the Katoor Dynasty until 1969 when it was merged with Pakistan.
The speakers said the book was an authentic source of facts about the history of Chitral and it highlighted the neglected areas of the history.–Zahiruddin
