CHITRAL: The Lower Chitral police held a meeting with notables and community leaders of Lotkoh and discussed the community’s role in the maintenance of peace in the area.
Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Lotkoh Tameez Uddin arranged the special meeting with the community elders and elected representatives on the special directive of District Police Officer Lower Chitral Ikram Ullah Khan, said a police spokesman.
The SPDO while talking to the participants of the meeting spoke about the strategic importance of the area. He said Lotkoh was located on the Afghan border along the Badakhshan and Noorsitan provinces and to ensure the peace of the valley the role of the local residents was imperative.
He said the locals should cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and keep an eye on suspicious elements. He said the police will play its due role in providing foolproof security to the worship places in the area.
He also urged the local notables to help the police in clearing the area from the menace of drugs by pinpointing elements involved in drug peddling so that they could be brought to justice. The locals should also avoid taking their cattle near the border areas, he added.
The community representatives and notables appreciated the DPO’s initiative in arranging the public engagement program and police efforts to eliminate drug peddling in the area. They also assured the police of the local people’s cooperation and coordination with the police to maintain peace in the area.
