CHITRAL: The long march of the residents of Ashiret demanding power supply to their area reached Chitral and ended with the formation of a committee to resolve the issue.
About 100 youth of Ashiret set off on foot from their area and reached Chitral town at a distance of 75 km in 32 hours.
On the way, four of the participants were sent back after they fell ill while 11 others were taken to hospital after they developed blisters in their feet.
When the long marchers reached Chitral town, they were welcomed at Atalegh bazar by ANP leader Eidul Hussain and Qazi Naseem of the JUI-F.
Addressing the gathering, representatives of the long marchers said even 75 years after independence, Ashiret was without electricity.
They said before launching the protest march, they had given the district administration a deadline to meet their demand but to no avail.
The protesters later assembled outside the deputy commissioner office. The DC listened to the grievances of the protesters and assured them that the issue would be resolved within a month.
On the assurance of the DC, the participants of the long march dispersed.–GH Farooqui
